NHL Betting: Canucks, Senators Playoff Update
April 16, 2012
The Vancouver Canucks were Canada's big hope in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but they're on the verge of elimination at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings as postseason NHL betting action resumes this week.
The Canucks, who have been playing without forward Daniel Sedin, are down 0-3 to the Kings in their Western Conference quarterfinal series heading into Game 4 in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. If they lose, they're out.
Vancouver lost the first two games of the series by scores of 4-2 at home last week, then fell 1-0 in Los Angeles in Game 3 on Sunday night to put themselves in their current hole.
Roberto Luongo started the first two games of the series in nets for the Canucks, but the team turned to backup Cory Schneider on Sunday; he stopped 19 of 20 Kings shots but still took the loss. Jonathan Quick made 41 saves for Los Angeles.
If the Canucks can win on Wednesday night then Game 5 is set for Sunday in Vancouver, with Games 6 and 7 next week. On the Stanley Cup odds at Bodog heading into the week the Canucks had slipped from the top of the list to 35/1 to win the championship.
Also at 35/1 to start the week on the Cup odds at Bodog were the Ottawa Senators, but they're in slightly better shape than Vancouver in their first-round playoff series right now.
The Senators are down just 2-1 in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Rangers, falling 1-0 at home in Game 3 of the best-of-seven set on Monday night.
Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves for the shutout for New York in Monday's win, with Brian Boyle potting the lone marker in the contest. Craig Anderson made 22 saves in the loss for Ottawa, while Daniel Alfredsson sat out the game with his head injury.
The Senators and Rangers will play Game 4 of their series in Ottawa on Wednesday, with Game 5 set for Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. Games 6 and 7 would be next week.
